Hotel Jerome, Auberge Resorts Collection is an Aspen institution. The 130-year-old historic hotel — part of National Register of Historic Places, no less — draws savvy travellers and in-the-know locals alike. Its original owner, Jerome B. Wheeler, was a business mogul, with a hand in banking, mining and railroads. He opened the hotel in 1889. Today, it’s difficult to think of a more perfect (or more stylish) home base from which to explore the town and its stunning natural surroundings. Auberge, as usual, knocks it out of the park.
The location itself is prime: the hotel is found right on Main Street, in the bustling downtown Aspen, within walking distance of charming restaurants and boutiques. From its old-west design to its food to its wellness and experience offerings, Hotel Jerome never fails to blow visitors away.

Hotel Jerome, Aspen, is a study in moody, eclectic, enviably handsome design. Large paintings hang on walls painted with dark, muted hues. Regal fireplaces populate the common areas, where guests can lounge on leather couches and chairs amid a mountain-western-chic aesthetic.
The spacious guestrooms and suites feature warm earth tones and thoughtful touches like antique artwork and cashmere curtains. The windows are refreshingly large, allowing in plenty of natural light. (Some rooms, like the Deluxe Premier King, even boast vaulted ceilings, additional evidence of the hotel’s historic setting.) Another plus: Hotel Jerome is a pet-friendly hotel, and pets will feel right at home in the rooms’ sophisticated cosiness.
Hotel Jerome is also perfect for larger groups or longer stays. Choose among their stylish private residences available for rent, which are especially family-friendly. The three-bedroom private homes feature a full, well-equipped kitchen, living and dining space and, of course, plenty of outdoor space offering unbeatable mountain views. You’ll still have access to all of Hotel Jerome’s top-tier amenities, as well as a dedicated staff to help you with any and everything, from grocery shopping to housekeeping. Plus, complimentary in-town transportation is included.

There are several reasons locals love to hang out at Hotel Jerome, but a big one is the food (and drinks). Bad Harriet, named after the original Wheeler’s wife (who herself was related to the founder of Macy’s), serves masterful cocktails in the old Aspen Times building. For a really special experience, reserve The Soirée, a multi-course cocktail tasting menu paired with gourmet snacks.
Prospect is a must for a gourmet, hyper-local prix-fixe menu highlighting the region’s diverse microclimates. The Garden is perfect for an al-fresco biodynamic wine moment, while J-Bar is ideal for casual (but elevated — this is Auberge, after all) American bar classics (burgers, onion rings). Then there’s the bright and cheery Felix Roasting Co., the beloved New York institution’s only out-of-state location. Come here for specialty drinks — both hot and cold — paired with house-made non-dairy milks and delightful café fare.
Even The Living Room, in Hotel Jerome’s cosy, clubby lobby, is a culinary delight. It’s best for quite literal fireside chats, a glass of wine and a curated menu of comforting bites like white-bean hummus or caviar with home-made kettle chips.

In typical Auberge fashion, the spa, Yarrow, is a masterpiece. Treatments employ locally sourced ingredients and draw from Indigenous wisdom. Any products used are from clean, natural companies. Guests even have the option to create their own blend of botanicals at the spa’s Element Bar.
If you love massages, you’ll love any of the available treatments. The Herbal Stone massage uses herbal poultices filled with turmeric, lime and lemongrass, as well as warmed salt stones for gentle full-body exfoliation. The Green Recovery massage soothes sore muscles (a great après-ski activity) with local CBD oil. There are also completely customisable options so that your body gets exactly what it needs.
The facials, too, are sublime. Skilled therapists leverage modern skincare techniques — pressurised-oxygen application, microcurrent technology — with organic products that utilise nature’s bounty to glorious (and glowy) effect. More comprehensive body treatments are also available, and are especially well suited for holistic restoration following a day of alpine activity.
As if Hotel Jerome’s wellness offerings weren’t already robust, the property even has a dedicated Peloton Concierge Program: the team will deliver a bike right to your room if you’re not keen on sweating it out in their Peloton-equipped fitness centre. Additionally, the hotel’s collaboration with Alo Moves grants travellers two-month complimentary access to the platform, replete with on-demand yoga, meditation and fitness classes.

The hotel’s proximity to Aspen Mountain Ski Resort and the surrounding Rocky Mountains make it incredibly convenient for the outdoor enthusiasts among us. The skiing and snowboarding is world-class, but also consider some of Auberge’s other activities. In the winter, hop on a snowmobile, try a horse-drawn carriage ride, dog-sled or allow a naturalist to guide you on a mindful forest walk. When the weather’s a bit warmer, kayak amid the Roaring Fork Valley, go dirt-bike riding, rock climb, paddleboard or embark on a vigorous hike.
Regardless of the weather, after a day of adventure, the hotel’s outdoor pool and jacuzzi beckon, as does the J-Bar, where a well-deserved nightcap is highly recommended.
