Northern Italy will be big next year, as the host of the Winter Olympics. NEMI Nest, in Milan, comes at the perfect time. Its 49 rooms are spacious and modern, decorated with handsome gem tones like navy blue or olive green. You’ll love the internal courtyard, the perfect spot for aperitivo hour or fresh Mediterranean food, courtesy of the hotel’s restaurant Forte. NEMI sits in a more local, authentic area of Milan: Via Lincoln, often referred to as the Rainbow District for its colourful houses painted in blues, yellows and pinks.

Auberge’s second European property is now accepting bookings for March 2025. As with all Auberge properties, the hotel has a strong sense of place. It was built specifically for its location. Collegio alla Querce is housed in a former boarding school, and comprises three 16th-century buildings surrounded by manicured gardens. Inside, tasteful Italian splendor reigns, complemented by a discreetly luxe vibe and chic burgundy accents.
You’ll love La Gamella, which serves Tuscan classics and seafood made from locally sourced ingredients, as well as the Conservatorio, a leafy atrium perfect for pasta, sandwiches, snacks and drinks. Don’t miss the swanky Bar Bertelli for curated bites inspired by the former school’s history books, along with hand-rolled Italian cigars. Recover the next day by the outdoor pool. When you get hungry, order a seasonal lunch from Cafe Focolare to enjoy al fresco, Aperol spritz in hand.

Anyone into fashion and design will love the SO/ Vienna. The sleek, minimalist hotel was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel. SO/ brings avant-garde edginess to the city’s 2nd district, steps away from the city’s old town.
Inside, the hotel is akin to a living art museum. Warm, colorful, dynamic LED ceilings complement the geometric, angular and metallic motifs you’ll find throughout. The SO/ team collaborated with a suite of fashion designers when concepting its décor, and it shows.

Fairmont El San Juan originally opened in the 1950s. It has since been restored, but nonetheless retains its original glamor and liveliness. You won’t be at a loss of things to do here. The hotel is home to a giant casino, a vibrant nightlife scene and no fewer than 12 restaurants and bars. But this is Puerto Rico, after all, so relaxation is in order. Lounge on the hotel’s two-mile stretch of beach, or by one of its four pools. You can even spend the day shopping; their on-site boutiques offer everything from swimwear to chocolates to souvenirs. You’ll even get a taste of local culture here. Fairmont El San Juan regularly exhibits the work of local artists. Exhibitions are generally in the lobby, and entrance is free.
